Getting started

ZAR Checkout for WooCommerce

PayPal does not support South African Rand (ZAR) as a transaction currency. ZAR Checkout is a WooCommerce payment gateway plugin that enables South African merchants to accept payments in ZAR via PayPal by automatically converting the currency to USD during processing.

Plugin Requirements

Installation

1. Download the plugin ZIP file from your account at: https://zarcheckout.com/dashboard
2. In your WordPress dashboard, go to: PluginsAdd NewUpload Plugin
3.Upload the ZIP file, install, and activate the plugin.
4. Once activated, a new menu item called ZAR Checkout will appear in your WordPress dashboard.
5. Click on ZAR Checkout, enter your license key, and activate it.

Configuration

6. Go to: WooCommerceSettingsPayments
7. Under Payments, locate ZAR Checkout and click Manage.
8. Fill in the required fields: PayPal Client ID and PayPal Client Secret
9. Default ZAR to USD Rate will be used as a fallback rate if the live exchange rate API fails.
10. Enable the gateway by checking the box: Enable ZAR Checkout & Click Save changes.

Where to Get Your PayPal API Credentials

1. Log in to your PayPal Developer Dashboard: https://developer.paypal.com
2. Under My Apps & Credentials, create or select an existing app.
3. Copy the Client ID and Secret from either:
    • Live section for production mode
    • Sandbox section for testing mode

Sandbox Mode

ZAR Checkout supports PayPal sandbox for testing:
    1. Use your sandbox Client ID and Client Secret from your PayPal developer account.
    2. Enable:
    Sandbox Mode
    3. Save changes and test transactions in a safe environment.
